| Answer - |
You had taken one of the appropriate treatment for Chlamydia and this will lead to a cure in about 1 - 2 weeks provided no further exposure takes place. Your partner should be screened and receive the treatment as well. You may wish to return to your doctor if the discharge persists. |

| Question: |
Hey, I want to know if I have infected with Chlamydia.
I do not have white or yellow discharge, neither do I experience burning sensation or irritation during urinating.
I read from DSC website and come to know that there are might be mild or even no symptoms at all. I know urine specimen can be used for test. Can I know how much is it? when will i know the results? and if tested positive, how long will it takes to cure completely? |
| Answer - |
Chlamydia is detected by a swab taken from the cervix for female and urethra for male or other relevant sites, and sent for an EIA test in the laboratory. Another recent method is by a PCR test and urine can also be used for screening. A blood test is not reliable in the diagnosis of Chlamydia infection.
The DSC Clinic charges $18 for the PCR test and the result will take 1 - 2 weeks.
Chlamydia is treated with the appropriate antibiotics and a complete cure may take 1 - 2 weeks. |

| Question: |
Hi, I wanted to know if chlamydia can be contracted through bath water... specifically if the vaginal fluids of someone with this STI had come in contact with the water.
Also, can smear tests detect chlamyida? |
| Answer - |
There is no risk of contracting any STIs through bath water, swimming pools etc.
Chlamydia is passed primarily during vaginal, anal and oral sex from an infected partner. Chlamydia is detected by a swab taken from the cervix for female and urethra for male or other relevant sites, and sent for a EIA test in the laboratory. Another recent method is by a PCR test and urine can also be used for screening. A blood test is not reliable in the diagnosis of Chlamydia infection. |

| Question: |
Hello doctor,
I tested positive for Chlymidia two weeks ago and was given the 4 pink pills to cure the STI along with instructions to not have sex or alcohol for 7 days. I have not had sex, but had alcohol and have masturbated within that seven days; it seems a little discharge has returned. Is this from drinking alcohol and masturbating before the 7 days?
|
| Answer - |
As you did not mention the name of the pills that you had taken, we are not able to comment. There are certain antibiotics that cannot combine with alcohol consumption as this can give rise to certain ill effects.
Generally, masturbation (non-excessive) does not disrupt the recovery process of urethral infection.
You can return to the doctor for a review of your condition.

| Question: |
I have been treated for chlamydia but my boyfriend hasn't yet and I'm wondering if I can get reinfected since I had protected sex with him? Another question is if he preforms oral sex can I also get reinfected if I kiss him. |
| Answer - |
Chlamydia is passed primarily during vaginal, anal and oral sex from an infected partner. It is a common and curable infection caused by the bacteria Chlamydia Trachomatis. It can be treated with the appropriate antibiotics that will lead to a cure. The partner(s) should be treated as well. Your partner should undertake treatment to prevent re-infection and complications.
Kissing has not been known to transmit STI including Chlamydia. |

| Question: |
Hello Doc,hope u can help me answer some of my qs in a simple explaination.
A guy has ngu/clamydia in the pennis.A woman peform unprotected oral sex on him.what are the chance of catching an infection in the throat for the lady? Will the throat infection slowly spread to other parts of the body if left untreated?
How fast or slow the throat disease will show & what are the syntom for throat?will it go away by itself if not treated?
Thanks a lot for answering my doubts. |
| Answer - |
If the NGU / Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea impact on the throat, there may not be signs and symptoms. Certain individuals may experience sore throat or itch and may be felt days later. At times, the body may be able to clear away the infection, however, it is safer to receive treatment. The infection does not frequently give rise to complications or dissemination in the body.

| Question: |
Hi, I had unprotected oral sex at the health centre. Have the following questions:
1. Is a penile smear test painful?
2. Can I do a culture test for NGU & Gonorrhoea instead of a Smear test?
Thank you for your time.
|
| Answer - |
Unprotected oral sex poses a low risk for HIV but other STIs such as Gonorrhoea, Herpes and Syphilis can be transmitted. The risk of HIV transmission through unprotected sex increases if there is contact with body fluids such as semen, vaginal fluids and blood, with the presence of sores and broken skin.
Do not put yourself at such risk. Condoms, when used correctly and consistently and where there is no breakage or leakage, provide effective protection against sexually transmitted infections and HIV.
The feeling of having a smear test is subjective to individuals, moreover, different individuals do have different pain threshold. Generally, the discomfort of a smear test is tolerable. Both the culture and smear test do require a penile loop to obtain the required specimen. In certain setting like the DSC Clinic, the availability of the PCR technique allows urine to be used for testing of both Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia. |

| Question: |
hi doc, assuming that i only have unprotected oral sex with a partner infected with NGU/Chlamydia, will the symptons appear too as it is only to the throat areas? |
| Answer - |
Unprotected oral sex poses a low risk for HIV but other STIs such as Gonorrhoea, Herpes and Syphilis can be transmitted. Condoms, when used correctly and consistently and where there is no breakage or leakage, provide effective protection against sexually transmitted infections and HIV.
NGU / Chlamydia can be transmitted to the point of contact during oral, vaginal and anal sex. The signs and symptoms may not appear for throat infections. However, if they do surface, one may experience discomfort like sore throat and pain. |

| Question: |
Hi. I would be very grateful, as Im full of doubts, if you would explain me, for example, if ureaplasma urealyticum is only a sexually transmitted bacteria or if urethritis usually leads to chronic without having sexual intercourse, or if antibiothics usually clear painful intercourse as urethritis may lead anyway to chronic. Any of these questions becomes a headache to me and any of them will make me satisfied.
I thank you anyway your attention.
|
| Answer - |
Ureaplasma urealyticum is one of the bacteria responsible for certain urethritis and cervicitis. This infection is passed primarily during vaginal, anal and oral sex from an infected partner. Signs and symptoms may surface as abnormal discharges and pain when passing urine. However, these may not be experienced in individuals. In some cases, recurrent or chronic infection is known to occur. It can be treated with the appropriate antibiotics that will lead to a cure. The partner(s) should be treated as well.
In some instances, there are other bacteria that are not link to STI but do cause urethritis too, for example urinary tract infection. |

| Question: |
Hi Doc,
I am just wondering. Clamydia is stated to be transmitted via Viginal, Anal and Oral Sex.
If the lady has clamydia but the gentlemen does not, and if she performs oral sex on the gentlemen without condom, it it possible for clamydia to be transmitted to the gentlemen? Can the clamydia bacteria be transmitted via saliava?
Thanks.. |
| Answer - |
Saliva has not been known as a medium for the transmission of STI.
Chlamydia is passed primarily during vaginal, anal and oral sex from an infected partner. It is a common and curable infection caused by the bacteria Chlamydia Trachomatis. If the infection exists in the genital of an individual but not the mouth, he/ she will not be able to transmit the infection from the mouth. The use of protection during oral, vaginal and anal sex can reduce one's risk of being infected with STIs.

| Question: |
Hi, Three week ago i have a protected sex with a sex worker but during this three weeks i also have unprotected sex with my regular sex partner and soon after i was infested with Chlamydia. Hence, may i know is it necessary to do HIV test. Thanks |
| Answer - |
Since you have been infected with Chlamydia, it is important to complete the medication, abstain from sex during this period and get your partner for treatment as well.
It is a personal option to do a HIV test to allay fears and offer peace of mind. If you decide on a HIV test, you need to take note of the window period, which is between 1 to 3 months after an exposure. One can go for a HIV test at the 1st month and repeat at the 3rd month for a conclusive result. |

| Question: |
Hi, my partner recently asked me to to get a culture test for chlamydia which was fine...but he is under the impression that he is my only sexual partner and thats not true...my fear is that his test results for will come back positive for chlamydia and he will suspect that it was me that gave it to him...unless my test results for come back negative...so what i did was go to a free health clinic and got treated for chlamydia with Doxycycline i took 2 pills and within a 2 hour time span i went over to my primary doctor and got tested for HIV and all other STDs...so what im asking is will the bacteria for chlamydia still show up in my charts even after had taken the Doxycycline 2 hours before?...and to keep in mind i wasnt experiencing discharge just a little itching durin urination so my symptoms where very mild...how long does Doxycycline take to kill the bacteria?...was i successful in covering my ass? |
| Answer - |
Chlamydia is passed primarily during vaginal, anal and oral sex from an infected partner. It is a common and curable infection caused by the bacteria Chlamydia Trachomatis.
Signs and symptoms can start as early as from about few days to few months or even take longer to occur. Discharge, which can be smelly, and pain when urinating are the common experience. This can be dormant, especially in females. This sometimes makes it difficult to determine the exact source of an infection. It can be treated with the appropriate antibiotics that will lead to a cure. The partner(s) should be treated as well.
It is not advisable to take Doxycycline before an STI screening, as this will inhibit the reliability of the tests. Moreover, the dosage that you had taken is insufficient for a treatment. If a certain bacteria have infected you, your test will still show reliability.
The recommended course would be 1 to 2 weeks. |

| Question: |
I have had vaginal odor for awhile. I also have alot of brown discharge that looks like I severely stained my underwear. I don't know why I am having this problem. I recently had a pap smear and the doctor stated that I have chlamydia.I am very shocked by this because I am positive that me and my partner are not having any affairs. His test came back negative. I am currently on the depo shot. I have been on the shot for more than 3 years. But I recently switch doctors and had gotten my injection at there clinic and thats when I realized I had all these symptoms. So I would just like to know if my diagnosis for chlymidia could be mistaken for a yeast infection or any other bacterial infections? Do you have odor and discharge with chlamydia? |

| Question: |
Hi Doc.,
I did the test at DSC.
1) Does the urethera smear test done at DSC check for (a) gonorrea (b) NGU? Is this the same as "Gram Stain"?
2) If the smear test is negative, does it mean that both (a) and (b) above are clear?
3) Is PCR urine test for Chamlydia the only test to confirm Chamlydia? Will the smear test reveal any signs of Chamlydia?
4) If smear test and PCR urine test are CLEARED, does it mean that ALL clear?
5) No culture test was done in my case. Is it reliable just based on a negative smear test?
Thank you.
|
| Answer - |
1 & 2. The urethral smear test is a gram stain microscopic test for males to determine the presence of abnormal cells. This basic screening is able to cover both Non-Gonoccocal Urethritis(NGU) and Gonorrhoea.
NGU is a sexually transmitted infection in males who present with urethral discharge and dysuria. Several bacteria may be responsible, the most common ones being chlamydia trachomatis and ureaplasma urealyticum.
Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection(STI) that is caused by the bacteria neisseria gonorrheae.
3. A specific test for Chlamydia can be done by a swab taken from the cervix for female and urethra for male or other relevant sites, and sent for an EIA test in the laboratory. Another recent method is by a PCR test and urine can also be used for screening. A blood test is not reliable in the diagnosis of Chlamydia infection.
The smear test is able to detect NGU generally, but a specific Chlamydia test is done by the above-mentioned methods.
4. The smear test and the Chlamydia PCR test will be able to show reliability for exclusion of NGU / Chlamydia.
5. The culture test is used for exclusion of Neisseria Gonorrheae. If there are no specific signs and symptoms, and other complications, a negative smear test will be reliable. |

2) if this is the side effect, should i continue my medication or stop it immediately? and if i were to stop the medication, will the side effect go away?
3) if i stop medication, what about my ngu prob? my doc says i must complete the prescription be4 my next appt to see if the ngu symptoms r still there or not.. how how?

| Question: |
Hi,
I had dysuria only (no discharge) and I went to DSC to do an urethra test. The male nurse inserted a plastic stick into my urethera twice. Am I being screened for Gonorrea and NGU/Chalymia?
After which I saw a Dr at DSC and he told me that I am OK based on the results shown at his computer. He also mentioned that my PCR urine test should be OK as well. Still waiting for the PCR urine test results.
I wondered why no culture test was ordered?
Does this mean that I am clear of Gonorrea & NGU/Chalymia based on the urethera swap?
Unfortunately, on the same evening, I had PROTECTED sex and upon urination during shower, I felt a burning sensation (dysuria) for 02 seconds at the beginning. I wonder if this is related to the "trauma" caused by the urethera in the afternoon or I have some other bacteria NOT detected by the swap?
Curious. Thanks. |

| Question: |
Gd Day doc.
while during the treament period(2weeks) for ngu & also waiting for pcr result for clamydia,a guy went to have sex with another negative female partner, the lady perform unprotected oral sex for the guy but they had protected vaginal sex. They also did kissing & french kiss.
1)Will the lady be affected almost immediately by performing a unprotected blow job for the guy?If yes,it will be on only the throat or will slowly infect the whole body?
2)can the guy be reinfected back on the throat even thou he's on medication for ngu as they did french kiss after the lady perform unprotected oral sex for him?If yes,Will it be almost immediate or take longer time to show?
|
| Answer - |
Unprotected oral sex poses a low risk for HIV but other STIs such as Gonorrhoea, Herpes and Syphilis can be transmitted. Therefore, she may be infected with Chlamydia on the throat. Condoms, when used correctly and consistently and where there is no breakage or leakage, provide effective protection against STI and HIV.
It is unlikely to get STI including Chlamydia through deep wet kissing or French kissing.
One should abstain from sex during the time of treatment. The lady should go for a screening as well just in case she is affected. |
